Few days ago the mixed choir of the Coro Farnesiano, directed by Mario Pigazzini, had the chance to participate in two concerts organised by the association "Amici della musica sacra" of Rome.
As the Choir had received an invitation consequently to its performance at the Choir Festival in Barcellona in 2008, the Farnesiano could live the unique experience of singing in the Sistine Chapel.
After months of intense rehearsals, on May 22, 2009, the Choir played the role of protagonist in the so called "Spiritual Elevation" with the breathtaking background of the Last Judgement painted by Michelangelo. The brief programme included composers such as Palestrina (who composed his music especially for the Sistine Chapel Choir), Des Prez and Monteverdi. The Choir could not express with words the emotion of being surrounded by music, exalted by the perfect acoustic of the Chapel. A moving moment for singers whose performance was praised by the restricted group of people sitting all along the walls of the Sistine Chapel brightly illuminated.
The following day, May 23rd at 9 pm, the Farnesiano Choir exhibited in the splendid Baroque church of St.Ignazio di Loyola.
A numerous and attentive public appreciated the programme presented, a complex and intense voyage in the sacred polyphonic music from Palestrina to Arvo Pärt, as well as the high quality of the interpretation of the Choir and its soloists directed by Mr. Pigazzini.
The Farnesiano Choir had then the possibility to act as protagonist in two important concerts, where its singers had the unique chance to breathe the sublime atmosphere of the Eternal City.
